Recommendations for catheter patency issues

Protocol for the Use of TauroLock™-Hep500/TauroLock™-U25.000 in Hemodialysis

The CVCs of patients with high clotting rates (the so-called clotters) should be locked according to the “2+1 Protocol” as follows:

  1. “2+1 Protocol” as Standard:
    The CVC is locked with TauroLock™-Hep500 two times per week (e.g. Monday and Wednesday). Before the long shift (e.g. Friday) the CVC is locked with TauroLock™-U25.000.
  2. In Patients with high clotting rates and frequent flow problems (Prophylactic use of TauroLock™-U25.000):
    The CVC is locked with TauroLock™-U25.000 three times per week.
  3. In non-virgin catheters:
    Aspirate the lock solution (e.g. heparin, citrate) from the catheter lumen. Lock the catheter with TauroLock™-U25.000 three times per week for two consecutive weeks. Then proceed with TauroLock™-Hep500 as standard lock solution.
  4. Correct Application of TauroLock™: 
    Regarding the correct use of TauroLock™-Hep500 and the reconstitution of TauroLock™-U25.000 please follow the instruction for use of the manufacturer.
