Recommendations for catheter patency issues
“2+1 protocol” as the standard method:
Lock the central venous catheter with TauroLock™-HEP500 twice a week (e.g. on Monday and Wednesday). Before the weekend (e.g. on Friday), use TauroLock™-U25.000 for a lock solution.
For patients experiencing poor patency and frequent flow problems (prophylactic use of TauroLock™-U25.000):
Lock the central venous catheter with TauroLock™-U25.000 three times a week.
Use of TauroLock™-U25.000 in thrombosed accesses:
Referring to the NFK-KDQI guideline, we recommend the following procedure:
- Try to aspirate the previously used lock solution (e.g. heparin) from the thrombosed catheter lumen.
- Use a small syringe (e.g. 3 mL syringe) to instill TauroLock™-U25.000 into the thrombosed lumen (sufficient volume to fill the catheter lumen).
- After 30 minutes, aspirate the lock solution from the catheter. Repeat this procedure up to three times according to need.
In non-native catheters:
Aspirate the lock solution (e.g. heparin) from the catheter lumen. Lock the catheter with TauroLock™-U25.000 three times a week for a period of two weeks. Subsequently, use TauroLock™-Hep500 as the standard lock solution.
Correct use of TauroLock™:
Please note the instructions for use with regard to the correct use of TauroLock™-Hep500 and the reconstitution of TauroLock™-U25.000.
